A Chilean typography based on letters of sign painters.
Letrera is a project that was born in my university days with the aim of rescuing and unifying the letters of the sign painters of Talca. I focused on one particular letter. Obviously I’m not a typographer, but this project helped me to enhance my abilities to detect inconsistencies in visual language and reveal a few secrets of typography. It is dedicated to Talca’s anonymous heroes for their exquisite and unique work.DOWNLOAD THE FONT
Album design and other pianistic pieces.
Sebastián is one of the most important pianists of the current Chilean jazz scene, but his qualities go far beyond that. He appeared seemingly “out of the blue” and within a short period of time has become the face of a new generation of jazz musicians. We began by creating a distinct set of guidelines to be applied to his flyers, which would eventually form the graphic world around his first album release.
The genesis of this deck comes from my motivation to spread the Mapuche culture and my ambition to awaken interest in the history of this ethnic group that occupied much of Chile. I chose playing cards because I needed a popular platform in order to reach my goal. I also liked the idea of creating a character that flows seamlessly into its own mirror image.

A collection of my favorite illustrations.
Lonely illustrations which, by themselves, are not enough to form a project, but nevertheless preserve certain personal importance, making them worthy of being showcased here.
Maule was one of the regions affected most strongly by the earthquake of 2010 (27F, Chile) and for its inhabitants, the consequences were devastating. For this very reason the authorities commissioned me to create an illustration that aimed to bring hope and raise spirits in the aftermath of the catastrophe.

As a child, I was always good at breaking things just to see how they were made. During my childhood, I guided that curiosity into a visual exploration and the unbounded world of creation, giving me an understanding of colours, space, shapes, proportions and a fantastic toolbox to represent reality and/or create a new one. As a young man, I formally studied design for three years at university. Here I learned the principles of the discipline, but soon realized that I had to set up a path determined by my own concerns. I thus decided to continue my career as an autodidact. Since then my experience has been shaped in the “battlefield”, through my participation in a variety of projects both within agencies and as a freelancer. Despite the fact that this portfolio showcases mostly graphic design, I’m also experienced in other visual disciplines such as photography, 3D rendering, videos and animation.
Don’t be shy, drop me a line!
I believe that as individuals, we have the duty to improve the world around us by raising the consciousness of society. The only way to do so is by carrying out bravely our tasks, whatever they may be. Therefore, I've devoted my life to my work, facing design problems, avoiding emotions or biases in order to achieve optimal results. This philosophy allows me to have an objective perspective when collaborating with different people, or taking on new disciplines and workflows.
Throughout my career I've developed a thorough understanding of design thanks to the specialization in three areas:
My illustrations are characterized by the absence of lines, where the edges give life to the form through basic shapes with a few, well chosen colours.
Personalities are unique when their attributes have been explored completely and thoroughly. These attributes are represented, as I steer the concept towards consistent and sophisticated results.
After dropping out of university back in 2009 I knew I needed to find a strong identity which represented my work. Operación Quimera (Chimera Operation) came to mind as a response to the exercise of re-orientation. I decided to adopt the name because of the spontaneity with which it emerged and because it reflected the nature of my creations at that time. The absence of color is due to the fact that I wanted them to play a neutral role, underlining the importance on the work. Ever since my first drafts, I had the intention to make “O” and “Q” symbolic elements, given the similarities they share. Since Operación Quimera is my own personal brand, it has changed slightly over the years. After having settled in Berlin I developed this final version, shortening the name to “oqgraphic”.
